The mission of Bear Valley Protection Society (B.V.P.S.) is to protect and restore the natural beauty and ecological integrity of the San Bernardino National Forest. Through community-driven efforts and inter-agency collaboration, we promote biodiversity, mitigate wildfire risks, conduct rehabilitation and reforestation projects, and inspire environmental stewardship. Additionally, we work to remove invasive species and illegal dumpsites from hiking trails and forest lands to preserve this vital ecosystem for future generations.

BVPS is actively locating and cleaning illegal dumpsites within the forest and local mountain communities. This effort includes coordinating with proper jurisdictions, engaging volunteers, and managing logistics for waste removal. These cleanups contribute to environmental restoration and community health.
In collaboration with Cal Fire Reforestation Services, BVPS is acquiring 4,000 Jeffrey Pine, Sugar Pine, and Coulter Pine seedlings to support victims of the Line Fire. These saplings will aid in reforestation and ecosystem recovery across affected areas.
BVPS is establishing an AIR-certified nursery to grow and donate plants for rehabilitation efforts in partnership with the Forest Service. Certification application began in October, and discussions on compliance requirements are ongoing.
Plans are underway to open a visitor center in the Rim of the World area. The center will serve as BVPS headquarters and a permanent presence. It will host exhibits, earth science programs, and youth education initiatives to promote healthy forests, biodiversity, and land stewardship.
BVPS is joining forces with nonprofits in the mountain communities to focus on seed collection, noxious weed removal, habitat rehabilitation, and reforestation. These partnerships enhance the scope and impact of environmental restoration projects.
Postcard Cabins in Running Springs, a corporate sponsor of BVPS, has provided space for transplanting 3-5-year-old specimen trees into nursery pots. These trees are thriving with a 100% survival rate and will be donated to private landowners affected by the Line Fire. This initiative accelerates post-recovery reforestation timelines by six years.
As specialists in native plants, BVPS plans to donate and install native plant gardens at schools and the Rim of the World Recreation and Parks District. These gardens will serve as educational resources, promoting awareness and appreciation of native flora among students, children, and community members.
